Stop Monsanto from Outlawing Organic Farming!

A bill to outlaw organic farming next week?

US House and Senate are about (in a week and a half) to vote on bill that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING [ Bill - HR 875 ]. There is an enormous rush to get this into law within the next 2 weeks before people realize what is happening.

Main backer and lobbyist is (guess who) Monsanto (aspartame maker) - chemical and genetic engineering giant corporation. This bill will require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by the newly formed agency to "make sure there is no danger to the public food supply". This will include backyard gardens that grow food only for a family and not for sales.

If this passes then NO more heirloom clean seeds but only Monsanto genetically altered seeds that are now showing up with unexpected diseases in humans.

The name on this outrageous food plan is:

“Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009” – [ Bill HR 875 ]

  1. A Google check of HR 875 pulled up this:

As far as it is concerned, it is referred to a Committee review as of February of this year. It could take a long time as Congress has to review other new legislation proposals and there are many of them. I'm certain there are already movements opposing this legislation, if they have money and resources to outmaneuver powerful lobbying groups supporting and backing HR 875.

I find it very ironical that HR 875 is sponsored by all Democratic Representatives, the supposed "friends" of the green agenda and farmers. The current Secretary of FDA is Tom Vilsack, a Democrat, the former governor of Iowa and Monsanto's BFF. Are you a Democrat?

I would suggest you to contact your elected Representative in your district, input your concern and then find out what is your Representative's position on that issue. I contacted mine sometimes on other legislation proposals that concerned me. Good luck.

  2. Rob, Thank you for your input. I, too, find it ironic that Democratic representatives would vote for the HR 875 bill.

Good suggestion about contacting your elected representative in your district.

I am still skeptical about this HR 875 proposal. I feel it is too good to be true this proposal would outlaw organic farming. I am sure there would be a lot of angry people if that happened. Anyhow, I think it is good to keep an eye on the HR 875 proposal and question it. Let's see what happens down the road.
